Nathan Detroit, the organizer of the oldest permanent floating crap game, bets Sky Masterson, the "bet on anything gambler", that he can't make the next girl he sees fall in love with him- this is Miss Sarah Brown of the Save-a-Soal Mission (who does eventually fall in love with him). Another character is Nathan's cold wife and the main attraction at the Hot Box nightclub- Miss Adelaide. The other characters are either gamblers or "spunky do-gooders."
