BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND – THE MGM MUSICAL DANCE SENSATION SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS

July 7 Through July 30th
Fridays and Saturdays 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Book by: David Landay and Lawrence Kasha
Lyrics by: Al Kasha and Johnny Mercer
Music by: Gene de Paul and Joel Hirschhorn
Based on the MGM film Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and The Sobbin' Women by Stephen Vincent Benet

Directed by Bob Baxter
Vocal and Musical Direction by Chris Congdon
Choreography by Ron Cisneros

“Goin’ courting” has never been as much fun as in this rip-roaring stage version of the popular MGM movie, adapted by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay. Millie is a young bride living in the 1850s Oregon wilderness whose plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighboring town to be their brides.

Bursting with the rambunctious energy of the original film, “Seven Brides For Seven Brothers” is all boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical. New songs by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn have been added to a melody-drenched classic film score by Johnny Mercer and Gene de Paul that includes wistful ballads, charming comic turns and rousing showstopping dances.

Crowded with music, bubbling with fun."
- The Plain Dealer

"A show with an extraordinary amount of appeal - shot through with much of the same vigor, high spirits, romance and deceptively ironic humor that characterized the movie.
- Dallas Times Herald

Jac and the Beanstalk

Come see this fast paced, hilarious re-telling of a popular old tale. Jac-queline (played by Sara Warren) and her mother, Margaret Sprague (played by Kathleen Flint) are at their wits end. Jac's father, has been gone for a very long time. They have grown desperately poor and Bessie the cow (played by Andrea Jenson,) must be sold at market if they are to make the mortgage payment. Along the way, Jack meets a pair of outrageous strangers straight out of a late night infomercial . . . (Taylor Graham as Gary G-Nome and Ashley Lucas as Betty) who offer to trade the cow for five "magic beans". Thrilled at the prospect of owning magic beans, Jac made the deal. Alas, her mother turned out to be less than thrilled when she arrived back home. Mother throws the beans straight out of the window where overnight they grow into a gigantic beanstalk.

Jac climes the beanstalk and meets Rupert the Giant (played by Patrick McCann) who has a goose who lays golden eggs (played by Chloe Condon.) A riotous afternoon for the whole family as Jac goes in search of adventure and finds so much more.

Join in the laughter every Saturday at 12 noon and 2:00 p.m.
Performance Dates: July 15th, 22nd and 29th. All tickets $5.00

Seeing how much their wives enjoy watching male strippers during their "Girls' Night Out," unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo New York come up with a bold way to make some quick cash. In the process they find renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun.

As the guys work through their fears, self-consciousness, feelings of worthlessness and anxieties (over everything from being overweight to child custody, bigotry to being gay), they come to discover that not only are they stronger as a group, but that the strength they find in each other gives them the individual courage to face their demons and overcome them.

There is great heart to THE FULL MONTY, and the ultimate themes expressed in the show, about taking charge of one’s life and following one’s dreams are great lessons for all of us.

There’s still time to become an official “RSP Partner” for the exciting 2006 Season!

As you know, Runaway Stage Productions is a non-profit Community Theatre Company who has been providing high quality theatre entertainment for eight years in the Sacramento area. What began as a one-time only show in 1997 has turned into a year round operation, producing Broadway-style productions, Storybook Children's Theater, delighting children of all ages and Youth Musical Theater Workshops providing performing arts education for hundreds of area youth.

RSP produces some of the highest quality theater in the Sacramento area as evidenced by increased performance attendance and multiple Elly nominations and Awards from the Sacramento Area Regional Theater Alliance (SARTA).

However, we are at a critical point in RSP history. The cost of producing quality theatre has increased dramatically over the last couple of years, and we are experiencing financial difficulty in delivering the superior theatrical productions our patrons enjoy and have afforded us recognition in the theatre community. RSP has relied solely on ticket sales and occasional individual donations to provide the necessary operational revenue. And in support of our #1 objective to provide the best possible live theatre entertainment that can be enjoyed by the entire community, we strive to keep our ticket prices affordable for our diverse patron base. Additionally, we continue to evaluate our budget management guidelines ensuring that we are operating at the most resourceful and efficient costs possible. However, we are still faced with the significant challenge to keep the “Stage Door” open at RSP.

How can you help? You can become an RSP “Partner” by making a tax deductible donation of $50.00 or more as described below. In return, we are offering complimentary tickets, recognition in our playbills, etc. Moreover, we are seeking “Sponsors” to help underwrite our productions. If you own or work for a business that is supportive of the Arts, please ask if they will help with a grant to cover some of the expenses of producing a Broadway Style Musical. The business or individual will receive full recognition in our playbills, banners, advertising, etc., giving them great visibility in the community. In an average season, RSP reaches over 10,000 people!

Thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you at the 24th Street Theatre!!

Tell us What You Think!

RSP is looking for input from you, our friends and patrons, on what you think of RSP. Applying for grants and funding opportunities is always a difficult project, and RSP is always working on these endeavors, so we are looking to you, our friends and patrons, to help with some information. If you have had an experience that has touched you, or someone you know, please let us know. We are looking for any stories or thoughts you may have had about the work that RSP does. So whether you have seen a show that you thought was well done, or if you have been involved in our YMTWs or if you just would like to send a letter of support please feel free, we would love to hear from you. In addition, if there is something that you feel we could work on, or if there is a concern you have please also feel free to send that along with your thoughts. Please be sure to include your name and contact information along with your letter. We appreciate your support for our work and we hope that with your help we can achieve some additional funding and be able to continue to produce the best community theatre around.
