Piratical Hilarity Drops Anchor at the 24th Street Theatre Stage!

May 6th marks the opening of another great show at RSP! Join us as we continue our 2005 Blockbuster Season of Broadway shows with the NEW version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE! A fresh take on one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular comic operas, this updated version of “The Pirates of Penzance” took New York by storm when it premiered in Central Park in 1980, leading to a subsequent smash-hit Broadway run. Wacky, irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, “The Pirates Of Penzance” spins an hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honor and duty.
Tevey Ditter (Smokey Joe’s café and Into The Woods) as Frederic and Kelly Mustain as Mable lead an all star award winning RSP cast with incredible performances that are both beautiful and charismatic. Rodger McDonald (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and The Sound Of Music) returns to RSP as the Pirate King in a highly comedic role that shows Rodger’s incredible comic timing. Joining Rodger on stage as a piratical partner in crime - is the talented Ruth Phillips as Ruth. This production marks Ruth’s debut with RSP, welcome aboard matey! Bradley Bong (Seussical and RSP favorite) also joins this talented cast as the Sergeant of Police in a very funny Keystone Cop performance. In a blast from the past Jess Gonzales, reprises his outlandish role as the Modern Major General, a role he originally did for RSP in 1999 on the Eagle Theatre Stage in Old Sacramento.
Other outstanding performances are delivered by RSP favorites Buffee Ann Gillihan (Edith), Kat Bushnell (Kate), and Kari Pruitt (Isabel).
The Pirates of Penzance is directed by multiple Elly award winning director Bob Baxter, Choreographed by Pam Lourentzos (Choreographer and Director of RSP’s 2002 production of Oklahoma), and Vocal and Musical Directed by Joe Velez.

Trouble, Right Here In River City!

Next up on the 24th Street Theatre Stage is RSP’s production of Meridith Wilson’s classic The Music Man!!!The Music Man is the story of a phony traveling salesman who's plans to flim-flam an Iowa town in 1912 are thwarted by his love for the town librarian. The score is a disarming potpourri of period styles including the Sousa-style march "Seventy-Six Trombones," the preacher-like exhortation "Trouble," several barbershop quartets and the shamelessly romantic "Till There Was You." The book captures a time of innocence with humor, charm, and sentimentality. The Music Man remains one of the world's most popular musicals, an all-American explosion of hokum and heart. Michael McElroy is Harold Hill and Buffee Ann Gillihan will be Marion Paroo in this blockbuster show so summer will sizzle at the 24th Street theatre and another great RSP Production!
