Smokey Joe's Café Opens May 14th
The dazzling musical that took Broadway by storm has proven to be a hit with the young, the old and the in-between. Smokey Joe's Café is the greatest party of the decade! In fact, two decades - because this all-song-and-dance celebration features every great hit of the '50s and '60s that were created by the Top 40 songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

Through songs such as On Broadway, Spanish Harlem, Jailhouse Rock and Stand By Me, Smokey Joe's Café explores the beginnings of rock and roll and the American civil rights movement.

Enjoy the solid gold singles of Elvis, The Coasters, The Drifters and many, many more. All that great music adds up to a perfect recipe for Love Potion #9. If you miss Smokey Joe's Café…you ain't nothing but a hound dog! Smokey Joe's Café was awarded a 1995 Grammy® and was honored with nominations for seven 1994-1995 Tony® Awards.

The cast is comprised of some of the most talented people in the Sacramento area including Bradley Bong (Rolf in The Sound Of Music), Cedrick Coward (making his RSP debut), Tevye "Tev" Ditter (also, making his RSP debut), Buffee Ann Gillihan (Narrator in Joseph…Dreamcoat), Robin Hushbeck , (an RSP favorite), Jacob Montoya (Joseph in Joseph…Dreamcoat), Amber Moore (Rosemary in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying), Gwendal Rodrigez (Sister Hubert in both previous RSP productions of Nunsense), and Pepper Von (Owner of Step-One Dance Studio in Sacramento) is also making his RSP debut. The creative team is top-notch with Gino Platina and Tiffany Hurly choreographing, Geneva Houx vocal directing, Ray Fisher musical directing and Bob Baxter directing this exciting show.

Smokey Joe's Café will open on May 14th for a exclusive four week run - so get your reserved seat tickets now on the web at: www.runawaystage.com or call the box office at (916) 207-1226. Performances are every Friday and Saturday evening at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Remember all tickets at the 24th Street Theatre are reserved seat tickets so the sooner you purchase your tickets the better choice of seats you have, so get yours today.

And remember…"we'll see you at the theatre!"

One Singular Sensation!
It opened to almost unanimous rave reviews and ran for fifteen years. It won almost every award possible, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It received nine 1976 Antoinette Perry Awards; Best Musical; Best Director of a Musical; Best Choreographer; Best Book; Best Score; Best Actress in a Musical; Best Featured Actress in a Musical; and Lighting Designer. On July 25, 1975 A Chorus Line opened on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre. It closed there on April 28, 1990 after 6.137 performances. For some time, it held the record as the longest-running musical in history - and now RSP is bringing this sensational show to the stage at the 24th Street Theatre.

A Chorus Line tells the story of a group of performers auditioning for a Broadway show. All the performers come from different backgrounds and have varying abilities. In between learning audition moves, they each reveal their most personal stories in interviews with the director, Zach. A Chorus Line is about hope, sex, insecurity, ethnicity, and dreaming. In the end, only eight people are chosen for the show and get to put on splendid costumes and live out their dream. The show is full of great music such as "Dance Ten, Looks Three," Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love," "One" and of course the anthem of the show and the performer's life "What I Did For Love." In addition, A Chorus Line is full of some of the greatest dance you will see anywhere!

The producing director of RSP had long maintained that he did not want to do A Chorus Line until we had the talent needed to produce such an incredible show. "For this show it is essential to have what are called triple threats, meaning performers that can sing, dance and act equally well" said Bob Baxter, Producing Director. As RSP has developed and grown over the seven years that we have been producing, we have seen the talent in Sacramento area grow and develop as well. When we received the final disappointing news that the Broadway producers of the Chicago we withholding the performance rights and we would not be able to produce Chicago, the Board of Directors, put their heads together, and with Mr. Baxter's full support, decided it was time to produce the Broadway legend…A Chorus Line. This show will fill Chicago's shoes and open for a limited four-week run July 9th - June 6th so get your tickets now for one of the greatest shows ever to hit Broadway - A Chorus Line!

We are extremely pleased to have an award winning creative team to mount this production, including Gino Platina (Choreographer), Erik Daniells (Musical Director), Geneva Houx (Vocal Director), Lillian Baxter (Costume Designer), Louis Hudson of Pointman Productions (Lighting Design) and Bob Baxter (Director).

Auditions for A Chorus Line are May 23rd and 24th, at 7 p.m. at the 24th Street Theatre, (part of the Sierra 2 Community and Arts Center), located at 2791 24th Street, in Sacramento. Performers of all levels, 18 years of age and older, are encouraged to audition. For further information about our audition criteria please visit our web site at www.runawaystage.com and click on "auditions."

RSP Fireworks Fundraiser
We will be running a fireworks stand again this year!! Anyone interested in volunteering to help are always welcome!! Here's all the news you need:

Where:Fulton and Marconi (in Goore's parking lot)
When:June 28: Noon-9pm
 June 29-July 4:9am-9pm

How to help?: Volunteer to work one or more of the 3 hourly shifts per day. Call Kathleen at 682-6294 to sign up.

Why??: This is our main fundraiser for the year. RSP is a non-profit organization and our costs to produce such quality work take money. We find this fundraiser to be a great way to meet new people, encourage new patrons and gather to socialize while helping out the company. Give it a try and I can guarantee you'll be having the time of your life (next to seeing one of our great productions, that is!!).

Hope to hear from you soon!!
