Established in 1997, Runaway Stage Productions Inc. (RSP) staged its first production, the Sacramento premier of the original musical comedy "Serenity Lost, A Tale of Gold, Greed, and Gossip." With the success of this unknown musical, the California State Railroad Museum Foundation asked the energetic group of thespians to continue and expand operations at the quaint 150-seat Eagle Theater. In the fall of that same year, RSP developed the award winning children's theater arm of the company, the Storybook Children's Theater, which produces six productions each year tailored to younger audiences.
In addition to Broadway style shows and children's theater, RSP is dedicated to the education and enrichment of all audiences. Spearheading this effort is the Youth Musical Theater Workshops. This successful series of workshops is designed to introduce school age children to the theatrical experience. Instructors work tirelessly with children to give them the necessary tools to perform confidently on stage. The children receive instruction in voice, dance and acting, rehearsal time and fully produced public shows presented live on stage at RSP's home the 24th Street Theatre.
Since its inception, RSP has produced numerous full seasons of Broadway style shows, and Storybook Children's theatre, which have received many awards, including multiple Elly awards (Sacramento's "Tony" awards), and public recognition of its work.
As a nonprofit educational corporation, we are always looking for theater loving folks from all walks of life to help in all areas of theater production. The staff, crew, performers, technicians, and artisans of RSP look forward to offering Sacramento many more great years of entertainment.
