AUDITION CRITERIA

Runaway Stage Productions, Inc. is constantly striving for the best performances possible, and this can only be achieved with the best talent possible. One of the ways to get great performers involved is to communicate with them clearly. Below is RSP's audition criteria. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us by e-mail or phone (916) 207-1226. Thank you for your interest in RSP and we hope to see you at an audition soon!

All auditions will normally be held at the 24th Street Theater or Studio 24. All experience levels are encouraged to apply. Parking is in the public lots or street parking. Click here for directions.

AUDITION CRITERIA

DOCUMENTATION: Head shot and resume is preferred. If you do not have either one or both, your audition card and photo (that will be taken during the audition process) will suffice.

MUSICALS: One prepared song from a Broadway show. The song should show off the range of the singer and be within their range. An accompanist will be provided and no recorded music will be allowed. Be prepared to sing the entire song. If there are a lot of actors auditioning you may be requested to only sing a portion of the song. If you sing an up-tempo song you may be asked to also sing a ballad and visa versa. (NOTE: The key to a good audition is to be prepared. Don't audition if you are not properly prepared; it is counter-productive for both you and the directors.)

There will be a dance audition, so please dress appropriately for movement. In most cases all actors will be asked to complete the dance audition even for a non-dancing part. Consideration will be given if you are auditioning for a non-dancing part.

Cold/warm readings from the script will be conducted for principal or featured parts. If there is a specific part you are auditioning for, be sure to list it on your audition card at the audition.

NON MUSICALS: Cold/warm readings from the script will be conducted for all parts. If there is a specific part you are auditioning for, be sure to list it on your audition card at the audition.

STORYBOOK THEATER: Cold/warm readings from the script will be conducted for all parts. If there is a specific part you are auditioning for, be sure to list it on your audition card at the audition. These auditions and productions are much more relaxed and creative. These shows are a lot of fun and less of a time commitment. Performances are usually Saturdays at 12 and 2 p.m.

FOR ALL PRODUCTIONS:

All parts are open unless otherwise announced. Any parts that are pre-cast will be announced at the auditions and in publicity regarding the auditions.

There are no stipends for performers unless otherwise announced.

Rehearsal schedules vary per production, but for the Broadway Stage productions they are normally Monday-Thursday from 7:30-10:30 pm, Saturday 1:00-5:30pm and Sundays 5:30-9:30pm. Storybook Children's Theatre productions typically rehearse Tuesday-Thursay from 5:30-7:00pm. (note; not every actor is called to every rehearsal) All rehearsals, unless otherwise announced, are at the theater or Studio 24. Performances for Broadway Stage shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. Performances for Storybook Children's Theater shows are Saturdays at 12pm and 2pm.

Tech Week is the week before opening and no absences from these rehearsals are permitted.

All known schedule conflicts must be listed on your audition card and will be taken into consideration during casting.

Feel free to call (916) 207-1226 or email us if you have any questions!
